Plymouth County Genealogists, Inc. is not the only genealogical society in the area! While you're with us on the first Saturday of the month, there are other organizations that meet on the Saturdays that follow. Often times, you'll find PCGI members at these meetings as well! Below are several other organizations that we highly encourage you visit!
Founded in 1983, the South Shore Genealogical Society meets at the John Curtis Free Library (534 Hanover Street, Hanover MA 02339) on the 2nd Saturday of the month September through June at 1:30 pm. SSGS describes themselves as a society "made up of beginners, amateurs and professionals who work within the highest ethical standards to learn, educate, assist and disseminate to our members sources, techniques, and methods required to learn the history of their family." For several years, PCGI and SSGS have traditionally done a joint meeting in April.
The Bristol Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists meets the 3rd Saturday of every month September through June (with the exception of October and December, in which they meet the 2nd Saturday instead). Several members of PCGI are a also members of the Bristol County Chapter and vice versa. Their meetings take place from 11 am to 2 pm at Somerset Public Library with an optional dinner outing afterwards at Agoro's in Somerset.
Self-described as "safeguarding researchers’ access to public records and providing educational programs for the genealogical community," the Massachusetts Genealogical Council was founded in 1980 and has been recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). Memberships are fully tax deductible. PCGI's secretary David J. McRae also acts as the secretary for MGC.
